Food Review 1 ( Joe's Fish Shack)

First and foremost, I must be one of those people who have not blogged for ages due to certain circumstances. Well, life has become some sort of balancing act when you are doing a double degree, working casually and doing other extra-curricular activities. I feel as if I have not enough time in a day to do what I set out to achieve. However, I must admit there is one thing I always make time for, which is food. I do venture out to find some good culinary goodness in Perth, which ranges from the cheap to the not-so cheap (when I dine out with my parents + relatives).

There is a wide variety of cuisines in Perth, ranging from Chinese to Italian to Western, Modern Australian and Mediterranean. There is also casual dining and fine dining restaurants, some of which have been quite good and worth the bucks. Here are some of my culinary adventures that I have experienced since coming here.
(Disclaimer: I do not encourage eating this trans-fat/high cholestrol/high blood pressure food frequently. This is an only once in a blue moon thing.)

Salt and Pepper Squid (this is a main course portion@ AUD 27.95)

Grilled Barramundi Fillets with Chips and Coleslaw @ AUD 30.95

Beer Battered Fish and Chips (this is a main portion @ AUD 24.95)

This restaurant is located 19 kilometres from the Perth CBD, in the south port city of Fremantle. To be more precise, this restaurant is located at the Fishing Boat Harbour at Mews Road. Surrounding this restaurant, is other famous fish and chips places such as Kailis and Ciccerello's, the upmarket Mussel Bar, McDonalds, the Little Creatures Brewery and Baskin Robbins.

On the outside, this restaurant just plainly looks like one of those neighbourhood shacks with no ambience. I guess, in a way, this is another case of "looks can be deceiving". When you enter the restaurant, you begin to see why it is called Joe's Fish Shack, with its creative use of all things related to the fisheries industry. It frankly reminded me an American diner, with regards to the furniture.

It is a relatively busy place to dine in, especially on the weekends (inclusive Fridays). Bookings are highly recommended but if you do go early enough, like say 6.00 pm, there is no need to book. The dishes in the pictures above are the good things on the menu with the execption of the Chilli Mussels (which are not pictured above).

The staff are very attentive and good-natured. Watching the sunset and the view of the rolling oceans hitting the harbour, makes dining here a truly wonderful experienced. The food may seem pricey compared to the others such as Kailis and Ciccerello's but the difference in the prices are reflected in the quality, freshness and service. All food is served hot, which may explain the waiting time but it creates a truly magnificent experience altogether.

Ratings:

1) Ambience: *** and half

2) Quality : ****

3) Service : *****

4) Cleanliness: *** and half

In conclusion, it is a worthwhile place to eat whilst you are around Perth even for a holiday. If any of you are around in Perth and do not mind splurging at all, I would gladly bring you here. The best time to visit is summer when the sun sets late at night. Haha, sorry I have nothing else better to blog about! My life here is pretty boring because it always is the same, well, most of the time that is!:)
